Brunette offers eco-chic event options and encourages environmentally sustainable practices.

To that end we’d like to share a bag that rocker Sheryl Crow designed. The eco-friendly bag was designed from recycled bottles.

Every effort – no matter how small – makes a difference. It feels good to be green. Take a step – no matter how small – today.

  1. I am a big reusable bad user and have been for over a year. I use the Envirosax that are advertised on that same link page. 5 come in a bag and they roll up to about 3 inches by 2 inches. So you can keep two in your purse and not even notice. They roll out to regular size bags and the checker dudes are always surprised with how much fits in. Plus, they come in really cute and colorful patterns. Go planet earth!

  2. I also try to bring a bag with me to the store, but I sometimes forget it when I’m trying to remember the kiddo! I wish stores would just offer them free of charge if you want one, and you can always bring back the extras you accumulate at a later date. Dream on, I know!

  3. As commented by Remy, the Envirosax are rather handy.
Also, there are rather easy bags to make if you crochet or knit. AND I was at the evil WALMART earlier tonight since they have the yarn colors I like (at the hours I have to shop)and they carry yarns that are made from recycled plastic bottles. So one skein is .6 of a bottle. Granted, you’d have to do a lot of knitting/crocheting to get that bottle out of the dump, but its still kind of cool that something soft came from that bottle. I’m currently making a hat for my nephew with that yarn.

Old tshirts make good bags, too! Look up Decon/recon for sites that show you how :)

To your anonymous poster, that would be really cool if a store did that. Even if it were just some sort of compostable bag that when you were done could be composted after it got several reuses. Maybe that should be looked into :) Plant-a-bag woo! Could be good for people who garden… or people like me who wish they did but have no green thumb. Could actually be relatively cheap to make. Possibly cheaper than plastic bags.

  4. These are all really great tips. The hardest part for me was remembering to bring my bags with me to the store. Or if I’m out and decide I should pick up a few things but didn’t plan and bring my bags with me. So I bought a second set of bags and keep them in my trunk so I am always prepared.
